Cleaning helps me decompress. I love popping my air pods in and listening to a podcast while I zone out and clean. For me, it’s a stress relief and a way for me to feel like I have accomplished something; even if all I end up doing is wiping out a couple of drawers.
Here are ten supplies that are not your typical rag and spray cleaner that I consistently use to clean my house:
Drain Snake for Hair (found at stores like the Dollar Store and Amazon)
If you have never used one of these, get ready for a disgusting yet rewarding feeling. I use this one in our sinks and shower and it’s horrifyingly amazing at what comes up. Once in awhile I will also use my home made clog solution since I have heard Drano can be bad for drains.
Seam Ripper Mom, you know how you will empty the vacuum out but the bottom of it is full of things like hair and lint (and gross, who really knows what else)? I was constantly trying to pull that stuff off and it drove me crazy. I would even try to use manicure scissors, and it was just an impossible task. In seconds, this seam ripper is small and tough enough to complete cut through any tangled mess that your vacuum has picked up.
Shower head cleaning picks I honestly didn’t even think of cleaning the water holes in our shower heads until somewhat recently. These cleaning picks help by fitting perfectly and you might be grossed out and amazed at what they help clean out from the shower head.
Long Q Tips I often use Q tips for cleaning and also keep long Q tips on hand. I have used them to help reach into small spaces like my drain to help pull up additional gunk after using the snake. Caution, you don’t want it breaking off so be gentle when using.
Toothbrush (ideally electric) No, don’t use an expensive Sonicare for this job. I got a $3 kids electric toothbrush from a Target bin and it works super well for things like shower grout. You could use a manual one too or if you really wanna get serious about shower tile, you can spend about $12 on a drill attachment.
Tweezers– I use tweezers to help things like tiny pebbles that accumulate onto window sills. You might have never even noticed the small dirt in those places so apologizes that I have now drawn your attention to it. I have a table with tiny gaps at the top perfect for the most annoying little things to get trapped.
Cleaning putty Check this out for an easy DIY way to make this with items you likely already have at home! Or you can buy it too. I use this stuff not only in my car in areas like cupholders and vents but also in cleaning my keyboard or other areas that are difficult to get dust out of.
Spray Dawn If you have yet to discover this, I beg of you to add it to your shopping list. I use this on dishes sometimes but much more often I use it to clean my shower including my glass shower doors. It is a miracle solution.
Hard bristle brush I use these on areas like slider tracks of sliding glass doors, toilets and sometimes on our tiled shower floors. You want to be careful not to damage any delicate surfaces but they are very handy at helping remove gunk.
Disposable small brushes Perfect for areas like gaps between toilet seat and toilet bowl.
