The lives of 11 people were taken on Saturday, but their legacies are shining brightly in this dark world. Take a moment to get to know a few of them…
- Rose often made breakfast for the congregation. She was 97 and still volunteering.
- You could often find Irving near the back of the synagogue passing prayer books to latecomers. He was 69.
- Sylvan and Bernice, 84 and 86, were married. Their neighbor frequently caught Sylvan holding the door open for his bride.
- Cecil and David were brothers in their 50’s. They began attending the Tree of Life synagogue with their grandfather when they were boys. Both had an intellectual disability, but it did not define neither of them. David was marked by a quiet, gentle spirit, while Cecil was always ready with a hug and a joke
In their honor, may we strive to shine as brightly as these precious people who touched the lives around them.
May we cook a meal for someone like Rose. May we hold the door open for a stranger or a loved one, like Sylvan. May we offer grace and a friendly wink when someone is late, like Irving. May we give out hugs like we give out candy this week.
